CCA leaders of Nanyang Junior College went for the annual Leadership Training Camp (LTC) which was held on the 4th to 7th July 2008. Close to 200 of us attended the camp as witches and wizards of Hogwarts, the school of wizardry.

Through the Leadership Training Camp, we learnt many new skills.

We tried dragon boating,

Rock climbing,

And even learnt the “Potter Waltz”,

During the last night, we even had our own version of “Yule Ball” which was held together with our campfire.

However to everyone of us, it’s not the new skill we have learnt that mattered the most. It was the process of learning that was etched deep within our minds and hearts.

The Defense against the Dark Arts sessions helped us reflect and think about the way we acted during the day, talked about our own fears and weaknesses as well as strengths and qualities. Through these sessions, we got to be more aware of ourselves as well as others.

We realized how the strength of encouragements from one another could make one person go very far;

How communication was the key to everything that needs to be done;

And even the most basic principle like care and concern mattered so much not only in our term as a leader, but even in our daily lives as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 days in LTC and I daresay every single witch and wizard has done well in ‘Hogwarts’. We have proven ourselves to our teammates, prefects as well as professors and we have indeed grown and matured.

From just being students on 4th July 2008, we became leaders, on 7th July 2008.

eggs&toast

Eggs & Toast is NY’s first online anthology of leadership experiences. It is a collection of true stories about past and present student leaders of NYJC. The amazing stories and experiences can then be shared among the NY population.

So, why the title?
As food, this dish is a nutritious, easy-to-make and tasty breakfast which is well-loved by many. On another level, to “egg” someone on is to cheer him on to achieve something, while to propose a “toast” to someone is to honour and to celebrate this particular person.

So how can you get started?
Remember, you can share your own story or share with us about someone you know. We welcome Chinese, Malay and Tamil versions as well. Teachers, alumni and current students are all welcome to share their stories.

If you are interested to have your story published right on this website, do email us at nyleaders@gmail.com. More details will be given then!
